Let's Go to the Beach for Christmas.... no seriously......

Yah seriously grab your surf board, towel, beach chair, and radio and lets head down to the beach.  I am pretty sure the water temperature is not that cold yet.  Isn't it pretty cool that it was almost 70 degrees F the other day in NYC?  Everyone just keeps talking about how amazing the weather is for a December.  I can't seem to remember the last time it was this warm.  According to the Weather Underground last year on this date the average temperature was 38 degrees Fahrenheit. By the way if anyone knows how to enter the degree symbol into blogger post a message please.  I searched it and the only instructions available are for computers with a number pad.  Anyway so if you look further on the Weather Underground site it shows that the record high for December 15th was 61 degrees F in 2001.  If you look on the site today it shows that the maximum temperature for today will be 63 degrees F.  I guess we will beat the record from 2001.  Now I wonder does that mean that the world is getting warmer?  Maybe it just means that we are paying more attention to numbers and figures.  Additionally you add in the increased awareness of most people and the prevalence of social media and everyone is talking about the weather.  Now I am in now way one of those climate deniers that you hear about on the news.  You know I've yet to meet one of those people.  You see them on TV and you hear about them on social media but you very rarely meet one in person.  You see they hear the word "Global Warming" and they think it means that the temperatures everywhere should be warm.  So for example when NYC was experiencing crazy snow last year they were like what are you talking about with this Global Warming mumbo jumbo.  The reality is the scientists and environmentalists didn't do themselves any favors when they came up with the term Global Warming.  A more accurate description for what is going on is Climate Change.  In some areas of the world they are experiencing an overall increase in the average daily temperatures where in others they may see a decline.  One thing that cannot be denied is that there is a change in the weather patterns and seasons.  It is almost like Mother Nature has a major personality disorder combined with an identity crisis.  Well whatever it is you should get outdoors and enjoy it while it lasts.  I have a feeling that Mother Nature is getting ready to hit us with something cold and nasty.

Not really sure where it comes from but that is ok.  If anyone would like to give it some thought feel free to contact me through my blog at www.stopbeingsheep.net.  I hope everyone enjoys what I have to say and lets see where this all goes..PODCAST Link

Does Anyone Get it?

I finally may have figured out my cure for Happiness!!!

What are you for real?  Did I really find the cure for happiness... .Maybe this is what it is all about:

Mugsy Blogger the Happy Mug

Oh yes that is my friend Mugsy and he is all about making me happy while I enjoy my morning and afternoon tea.  And yes that is his ride in the background.  Lets just say he likes to have the wind blowing through his handle as he travels down the twisty back roads.  For those of you who have a keen eye you may have noticed that Mugsy is sitting on a special coaster from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. OK, wait a minute didn't he open up this article by mentioning the cure for happiness?  Well yes you would be correct in saying that, and yes I am getting a little bit away from the topic on hand.  But as my father always said a good story is worth telling even if it takes you a while to get to the point.  If you read my blog recently you would see that I talked about K.I.S.S. , you know Keep It Simple Stupid.  Well one of my keys to happiness is being able to brush myself off and get back up.  Realizing that whatever is irking me at that moment it is only temporary.  For example I shouldn't let the parking ticket I received this morning dictate my mood for the rest of the day.  It happened I got upset, I pleaded my case, and it is what it is.  Now there is a phrase that sometimes irks people.  "It is what it is", is not a defeatist way of giving in or showing that you don't care enough to speak up.  To me it is the first step in accepting something for what it is and nothing more.  Sometimes though I have to acknowledge that things we are asked to accept can be pretty daunting at times.  Another key to happiness is listening to your favorite music everyday and listening to it loud.  Just remember "When in Rome" listen to "The Promise."  Now my final cure for happiness is to find something in this crazy world that truly makes you happy.  It may just be one thing or possibly there are many things that float your boat.  Whatever it is make sure you embrace it and put your hear and soul into it.  One example I have of something that makes me happy is traveling.  Not just the act of traveling but the planning and excitement that leads up to traveling.  And it doesn't matter if it is a trip far or near when I combine music, good company and traveling out on the open road I am most extremely at my happiest.  So what do you say lets get out there and share our cures for happiness.  Oh, wait, just one second. What did he say? That sort of doesn't make any sense. Wouldn't a cure for happiness actually end your happiness?  At this I have to say sit down smart ass and just enjoy the ride.

Where am I? Answer and you win my approval.

KISS : Keep It Simple Stupid

That's right Keep It Simple Stupid or you can interchange that with Silly if the word stupid bothers you.  This acronym is just a reminder that life doesn't have to be all that complicated.  If you really think about it life is best taken with a grain of salt.  We need to take life seriously but so much that we forget to enjoy the simple things. Here are some things that everyone should do on a daily basis:

  • Tell someone that you love them
  • Give someone a hug (30 second minimum)
  • Smile
  • Meditate even if it's only for a short time
  • Exercise for at least 10 minutes every day
  • Watch or read something that makes you laugh
  • Take a brisk walk
  • Sit outside in the sun
  • Eat a piece of fruit
  • Drink several glasses of water
  • Love yourself
I'm sure there are plenty of other things that can be added to this list and maybe some you would like to share your own tips.  I welcome any suggestions, advice, or feedback.

IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE????? JUST COMMENT IF YOU COULD HEAR ME......

Okay so it looks like my blog posts are becoming infrequent again. I have to say it is difficult to stay inspired when no one likes, comments, or responds in anyway to what I'm saying.  After checking google analytics I can see that I am quite popular in Russia specifically with someone in the city of Samara.  So let me say thank you to the person or person in Samara, Russia.  I hope you are real and enjoy my posts.  I personally have never been to Russia although I've been a stones throw away from the border.  Last summer I visited the city of Narva, Estonia I could see the outskirts of the Russian city of Ivangorod.  I would like to visit Russia at some time in the not so distant future.  Maybe by that time I will become more well known and someone will have responded to my posts.  Wishful thinking I guess.  My question as you can see in the title of my blog post is pretty clear.  It seems as though people can see my blog but it is not reaching many of you.  I wonder if it is the blogger platform that is not allowing my blog to grow or maybe I'm just not optimizing it correctly.  Or maybe, just maybe what I have to say is not very interesting to others.  I keep hearing other bloggers talk about finding your niche and sticking with it.  That as a blogger you can't be all over the place.  How it is important to focus in on a certain topic or area of expertise and stay with it.  Well that would be great but I am not like that.  My mind often wonders throughout the day and I think about many different things.  I can be strong and opinionated about certain topics and passive and relaxed on others.  Some days I may want to talk about not being sheepish and other times I may want to just talk about music or food.  Speaking of I think a day without good music and excellent healthy food is a day not worth getting up for.  Enough said from me today.  For now I'm going to post a random coupon from a sporting goods store here in the United States.  Just to see what happens.  I will follow that up with some random hash tags just for fun.

Winter's here and My love of Traveling

Well it has been a pretty busy and cold week here in the Northeast.  We got hit with another polar vortex which is just a new way of saying really cold Arctic weather.  Although I'm pretty sure that people that live in Iceland, Norway, Alaska, Maine, and other cold environs are like, "Why don't you grow a pair?" Today we got a dusting of a couple of inches of snow which wreaked havoc on the early morning commuters and parents attempting to drop their kids off at school (me included).  For some reason when I look outside and see the snow covered trees and ground I'm inspired to think about traveling.  Not necessarily to someplace warm and exotic but just traveling in general.  While sipping some oolong tea that just arrived today via Amazon I looked out the back window of my house and memories of my trip to Norway came to mind.  Of course snow and Norway are synonymous just like images of palm trees remind me of my trips to California and Florida.  As I stood there looking outside of my sons bedroom window I couldn't help but wonder where my next journey will take me.  Will it be someplace in the far east, or maybe closer to home like the Grand Canyon?  One thing that I know for sure is that I suffer from a specific travel phenomenon which makes me want to live in any country that I travel to.  For example the summer after my wife and I visited Ireland I found myself seriously thinking about moving there.  The same thing happened after my visits to Estonia and Norway.  Does anyone else experience this?  Since it doesn't really have a clinical name lets just call it post-travelivitis: the idea of taking up residence in a country that you were recently vacationing in.  I wonder where it comes from.  As a kid my family and I didn't do any international traveling.  We were pretty much domestic types. Taking trips to Florida, California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and of course all over New York.  When I got older I added solo trips to Arizona and Washington to the list.  It wasn't until I met my wife that I took my first trip out of the country if you could call it that.  We took a cruise from Florida to the Bahamas.  That was the first time I had to use my passport.  I think I was like 28 or 29 years old at the time.  Compared to my son who has been traveling out of the country since he was 2, I'm have much ground to cover.  Since our trip to the Bahamas I have been to Montreal (twice), Niagara Falls (Canadian side once), Vancouver and Victoria B.C., Estonia, Finland, Ireland, and Norway.  Reading that sentence over I'm the least bit impressed.  There are still so many place I want to visit.  To name a few: Scotland, Iceland, Sweden, France, Prague, Holland, Germany, Poland, China, Japan, Nepal, and Kazakhstan.  I could list a bunch more places but for now lets keep it real.  I actually may get an opportunity to visit Kazakhstan this summer.  My wife's family is from there and we have been thinking about visiting for some time.  That would truly be an adventure.  Well I guess I have said enough for now.  Oh, one more thing, I'm thinking about starting my own podcast.  I will keep everyone posted.....Also feel free to comment on any of my posts. It would be nice to get some feedback.

Getting Discouraged in 2015

It's safe to say that 2014 was not a good year for many people across the globe.  Well that is unless you are part of the 1% of the population that pretty much rules the world.  They seem to have good years all the time even while the rest of us may be struggling.  The world seems to be experiencing times of endless conflict.  Whether it is war, poverty, disease, famine, natural disasters, violence, income inequality or other issues. The average person never seems to catch a break.  Okay maybe, just maybe I'm being a bit of a pessimist in my outlook towards the state of the world.  If we were to compare our lives now to those of our counterparts living 100 years ago there have definitely been vast improvements in our quality of life.  Yes, the average person is living a longer and healthier life and we have access to more stuff.  Stuff like big screen TVs , electronics, mobile phones, and more.  The things that really don't make our lives better.  They may seem like they improve the quality of our lives but really they don't.  If anything they allow us to temporarily forget about the insanity that is going on around us.  The tremendous amount of greed that we see from world bankers, oil companies, and many large corporations.  The profiteering off of global conflict and war.  The buying and selling of politicians in Washington and abroad.  It has come to a point where politicians blatantly ignore the needs of the people in favor of corporations and special interest groups. I mean come on how in the world can did the Supreme Court rule that corporations are people?  When you look at this decision and others you just want to pull your hair out and run screaming down the street.  BTW I wouldn't suggest doing this since you may be locked away with the loonies.  So for people like me and millions of others what are we supposed to do?  One option is to take the ostrich approach, bury your heads in the sand and ignore everything that is going on in the world.  Another option is to take action. Write letters, go to rallies and protest, boycott companies, and take your money out of big banks.  Or you can just unplug yourself from society and live off the grid in the mountains somewhere in Montana.  Another option is to get the hell out of dodge completely, as in move to another country.  Where would you go?  Is there anyplace out there on this planet that hasn't been corrupted by greed?  Or do the tentacles of the bankers and the corrupt reach out to every square inch of this planet?  I for one do not hold much optimism when it comes to a happy ending for the common person.
